CONSULTING PROGRAMME FOR POTENTIAL WEDDING VENUES Does your farm have what it takes to become a wedding venue?
You’ve already taken great leaps to diversify your family farm’s income streams. You’ve perhaps converted cottages into self catering holiday homes or created a small glamping business on your land. You may have been approached to use your land or buildings for the wedding of a friend or perhaps you've just hosted your own family wedding which has opened your eyes to the wedding world.
You’ve heard that the wedding sector is profitable and reliable (even in the pandemic 95% of couples have postponed and not cancelled their weddings).
But you want to know – do you really have what is takes to host weddings on your farm? You want to know if this business diversification is realistic for you alongside other activity, what your offering would look like, what kind of profits you can expect to make and what you need to make it all happen so that you can decide if it’s really worth going for or if it’s actually not for you.
Our viability study service is created exactly to meet that need, responding to the needs of tens of farming families since 2016 who have approached us as wedding venue consultants wanting that early insight before ploughing ahead with more significant investment.
We give you the expertise and knowledge to make an informed decision about this new sector to help you to take those early steps into wedding venue creation. In many cases we work with clients in the very early concept stage, other times as part of a buildings/land planning permission process or grant application process. Whilst the viability study is a fixed price service, our advice is always individual and bespoke. And yes we do sometimes say that we don’t think a location has genuine wedding potential. You get straight talking honesty here.
So how does it workHere’s what you get in terms of specific elements:
Viability Session
A 2-hour Viability Session – with Kelly on-site at your farm
You show me around the raw ingredients of your farm, land and any buildings to visit the setting, gain an understanding of other activity, look at renovation plans and your ideas, and objectives. We walk and talk to understand your business activity, team, goals and ambitions on-site so that we get under the skin of what you may be able to offer to the wedding market.
Viability Report
Our review and recommendations (within 10 days of the Session)
by written report to include:
- Our expert opinion on whether you have or can have what it takes to host weddings on your farm and why
- An outline of your ideal wedding offering in terms of facilities needed & target customer
- An outline of hire pricing, running costs and likely profits
- A priority action plan in terms of investment and what is key to your venue creation and what can be Stage 2 or Stage 3 once you’re generating revenue.
- An understanding of the team you’ll need to get set up and launched.

PROVEN RESULTSThorganby Hall
‘Having listened to Kelly Chandler speak at the Farm Innovation Show, James and I felt that she would be an excellent consultant regarding our proposed new wedding venture. Having been in the self catering accommodation business for 14 years, weddings are a new market for us and we had a huge list of questions and concerns. These ranged from pricing, preferred suppliers, the logistics of a ‘weekend wedding’ (and the movement of guests through the buildings), and noise issues, to name a few.
To have an expert look with knowledge at a concept in the early stages of its conception was invaluable and we look forward to working with Kelly in the future.’
